Major events under College with Potential for Excellence Programme
for the year 2010 - 2011
Acharya Tulsi National College of Commerce,
Shimoga, Implemented the College with Potential for Excellence Programme with
zeal, enthusiasm and commitment. Special emphasis was laid on value addition
courses which already helped stakeholders to get employment. An add-on course in
French language was started and it was taught by Prof. David bond from England.
Two such courses were completed where in sixty students made use of the
course.
Another add-on course which is being conducted is a course in
soft skills and personality development. Training is given to students to
empower them to BPO and Call center jobs. BPO trainee, Mrs. Anjan bharadhwaj
from Xchanging company, a BPO in Shimoga is conducting this course. A course in
dramatics was also introduced in the current academic year. At the end of the
course students staged a drama called “Kuniye Guma” based on the prescribed
text.
In response to the demand from the Alumni an add-on course in
spoken Sanskrit was also started where in Sanskrit scholars not only taught
Sanskrit language but also Indian aesthetics.
The college organized
following seminars / workshops and conferences under CPE Programmes.

Two day workshop on “Innovative Methods of Teachings” was held
on 03.12.2010 and 04.12.2010.

One day state level workshop for the college librarians on the
topic “Institutional Repositories” was organized on
30.01.2011.

One day workshop for the
First Grade college Principals on the topic “ The Cynamics of Higher
Education - The Role of Principals” on 05.08.2011.

Three day workshop for
the commerce teachers to design and teach Business Mathematics on 11, 12
and 13 February 2011.

One day symposium on “Women’s Issues - Reality and
Representation” was held on 08.03.2011.
|

One day state level seminar on E-Administration for the
non-teaching staff was organized on 23.03.2011. Three hundred office staff
of the First Grade colleges of the state took part in the
seminar.

One day workshop for Kannada teachers of Kuvempu University was
held on 23.04.2011. The teachers deliberated upon the questions paper
pattern for various courses.

One day seminar on “Shakespeare and His Works” was organized on
05.05.2011.

One day national conference on “ Banking and Finance -
Power of Financial Inclusion and Beyond ” was organized on
14.05.2011.

Remedial Classes
Remedial classes were conducted for both B.
Com., and B.B.M., students between 9 a.m. to 10 a. m. and 4 p. m. to 5 p. m.
from Monday to Friday in the month of August, September, October, November and
again in the month of February, March, April and May.
Subject-wise and Special
lecture series.
This series was inaugurated by Padmashree Girish Kasaravalli,
well known cine director who spoke on the impact of media. Nearly twenty
subject-wise lectures were organized for B.Com., and B. B. M., students were in
subject experts delivered enlightening speeches. Thirteen special lectures on
various subjects and current issue were organized for students. The topics
covered were ‘Need for Consumer Awareness’, ‘Ethics in Hithopadesh’, ‘Origin and
Growth of Urdu Literature’, ‘Preparing Youth for Competitive World’, ‘Career
Opportunities after Degree’, ‘Marx, Gandhi and Ambedkar’, ‘Trends in Hindi
Literature’ etc.,
Career guidance and placement services
Various programmes were
initiated to empower our students to take up jobs in this competitive society.
Weekend classes on the following topics were arranged for final year B. Com.,
and B.B. M., students.
1. 31.07.2010, 21.08.2010 and 28.08.2010 - Communication
Skills.
2.
07.08.2010 - Personality development concepts.
3. 04.09.2010 - Psychology and Counseling.
4.
04.09.2010 and 18.09.2010 - Analytical Reasoning.
The most rewarding programme under this head
was CAT/MAT coaching classes. The aspirants were trained to write the entrance
exams and this training has already y helped some student to get entry into
IIPM, Bengaluru.
Under the heading Non-recurring expenditure,
re-electrification of the classrooms was done. Twenty-two ceramic-metal boards
were fixed to each classroom. Principal’s chamber was converted into AC
Room. Fifty new computers and four printers were purchased along with one
LCD projector. Special training was arranged for final year students in
interview skills and group-discussion on Saturday afternoons (totally TEN
sessions) in the month of March and April. Experts from BPO sectors gave this
training which provided hands-on experience to the job aspirants (Resource
Person - Ms. Deepa Chandanani from Mumbai BPO).
Field survey programme
was started where in a batch of students made a thorough survey of plastic
garbage in the city and submitted their proposals to check plastic
garbage.
The women empowerment cell of the college, under CPE Programme
arranged crafts, embroidery and knitting and pottery classes for the selected
girl students which helped them to earn while learning.
